Tigers sweep pre-season series with Hurricanes
MedIcine Hat, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers concluded their pre-season home-at-home series with the Lethbridge Hurricanes with a 5-4 victory on Co-op Place ice Saturday night.
Cayden Lindstrom, (Cheywynd, BC) would get the first chance to score ringing a shot off the post exactly 6:30 into the first but it would be the Hurricanes striking first. Brayden Edwards, struck shortly after the Lindstrom opportunity beating Tigers starter Beckett Langkow (Vegreville, AB) with his first of the pre-season to give Lethbridge the lead at 8:54.
Shortly after the Edwards goal, the Hurricanes would add to their advantage thanks to Will Sharp’s first goal of the exhibition season at 9:21.
The Tigers would get a chance to cut into the Hurricanes lead with their first power play of the game we’re able to cash in on a net-front re-direct from Brayden Boehm (Nanaimo, BC) on a Josh Van Mulligen (Medicine Hat, AB) shot home and beat Lethbridge goaltender Harrison Meneghin to make it a 2-1 deficit for the home side. Shane Smith (Cessford, AB) would benefit from a secondary assist.
Lethbridge would take that very 2-1 lead into the 1st intermission despite being outshot 9-6 by Medicine Hat.
Off to the second period where the Tigers draw even as Cayden Lindstrom would solve Meneghin at 3:19 on a quick wrister from Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB).
Half-way through the 2nd, the Tigers would switch goaltenders as Evan May (Nanaimo, BC) would come in for Langkow who made five saves on seven Lethbridge shots.
Lethbridge would regain the lead late on their 3rd power play of the night as Tyson Zimmer would one-time a pass past May to make it 3-2 at 16:51.
The Tigers would get a late power opportunity and tie things up at 3-3 as Markus Ruck (Osoyoos,BC) would bury his first pre-season tally from Cayden Lindstrom & Matt Paraynch (Edmonton, AB) at 18:11.
Medicine Hat’s power play would click again right before the end of the period as Josh Van Mulligen would notch his 1st of the night on the man advantage with a mere 21 seconds left on the clock in the 2nd.
Tigers would outshoot the Hurricanes 18-8 for a two-period total of 27 -15.
In the final frame, the Tigers would continue their onslaught of pressure midway through the third but Harrison Meneghin would keep the Tigers at bay.
Another Tigers power play would make paydirt at 11:17 with Hayden Harsanyi (Calgary, AB) and his 1st goal of the pre-season from Basha & Paranych to give Medicine Hat the 5-3 lead.
Lethbridge would pull the goalie and score with 31.2 seconds left thanks to a Joe Arntsen feed to make it interesting but the horn would sound securing the Tigers 2nd win of the pre season.
The Tigers power play did 80 percent of the damage on this night going 4/5 while the penalty kill would be 2/3.
Next up for the Tigers, the conclusion of the pre-season with a home-at-home affair with the Swift Current Broncos starting Friday, September 15 before heading to Swift Current on Saturday, September 16.
