Videotron Player of the Week | Olivier Ciarlo (Dec. 4, 2023)
The latest Videotron Player of the Week is goaltender Olivier Ciarlo. In a pair of games, the 19-year-old from Laval, Quebec was, literally, perfect, recording back-to-back shutouts in a pair of home games while the league-leading Drakkar went 2-0.
On Friday night, the fourth-year veteran earned third star honors and kicked aside 15 shots in a 3-0 victory over the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. This would actually be the second consecutive whitewash for Ciarlo, whose current shutout streak began with a 4-0 blanking of the Eagles in Cape Breton the week before.
Ciarlo and the Drakkar would make it three straight shutouts on Saturday afternoon. With the Armada back at the Center Henry-Leonard, Baie-Comeau picked up where they left off. This time, Ciarlo kicked aside 22 shots and the Drakkar again blanked Blainville-Boisbriand 5-0. Ciarlo’s shutout streak has now reached 192 minutes, 35 seconds. Another 14:57 of scoreless hockey by the veteran netminder would set a new Drakkar franchise record.
Ciarlo, a second-round selection of the Drakkar at the 2020 QMJHL Draft, has already equalled his single-season career high with 18 victories. Those three straight shutouts have more than doubled his QMJHL career total (2) going into this season.
