Mario Cecchini introduced as next QMJHL Commissioner
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League introduced Mario Cecchini as the next QMJHL Commissioner earlier this afternoon. He was presented to the media by the President of the Members Assembly, Richard Létourneau.
Mario Cecchini has been President of the Montreal Alouettes since 2020. He previously served as President of Corus Media and Corus Radio, was Vice-President of Astral Media and also acted as consultant for DSJ Solutions. Moreover, the Algonquin College alumnus is an active participant of a few executive boards, such as the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation and the Maison source bleue (a home for palliative care).
“Mario Cecchini was an obvious choice to take over as Commissioner of the QMJHL. We met with seven different candidates for the position, but Mario stood out thanks to his great empathy, his ability to listen and his expertise in communications and marketing. His experience in sports in general, his great talent as a communicator and his bilingualism were important assets that made him the ideal successor to Gilles Courteau”, mentioned Richard Létourneau, President of the Members’ Assembly.
“My arrival within the QMJHL represents a major challenge, but one that is very exciting. My mandate will always be to mentor the youth in our society, to help them evolve and become model citizens. I know that the league relies on some passionate fans and that’s why I’m making it my personal mission to continue to make all of its different markets shine”, said Mario Cecchini.
Mr. Cecchini will take charge of the Commissioner’s Office on May 8. He succeeds Gilles Courteau, who has been the QMJHL Commissioner for 37 years.
