Wildcats Sign Free Agent Defenceman; Jacob Arsenault
The Moncton Wildcats have signed defenceman Jacob Arsenault from the Notre Dame Hounds of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.
The 18-year-old defenceman, standing at 6’1, weighing 190 lbs was born in Richmond PEI where he began his hockey career. Up until Bantam AAA Jacob remained on PEI, then during the 2014-2015 season he make the move to Saskatchewan where he played two seasons with Notre Dame in the Midget AAA League. During that time he combined for 48 games played and 18 points recorded before moving up to the SJHL. Last season Jacob make the transition to the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, continuing with the Notre Dame Hounds where he appeared in 51 games, registering 22 points and 103 penalty minutes.
“Jacob is a smooth skating, right handed shot defenceaman that plays with an edge” said Wildcats Head Coach, Darren Rumble. “He possesses a high level of hockey sense, and we feel that he will fit seamlessly into our lineup and see a bright future for him with the team.”
Director of Hockey Operations, Roger Shannon had this to add. “He is a very exciting young prospect who has worked very hard through the Notre Dame System in Wilcox Saskatchewan. He played Bantam, Midget, and Junior A in three consecutive seasons and excelled at all three. Jacob is a character kid from PEI who loves the game and works very hard at it, he will be a very welcome addition to our team.”
Moncton Wildcats training camp will kick off on August 15th. Then, from August 18-20th Moncton will once again host the QMJHL Rookie Challenge. All six maritime division teams will be on the ice displaying their best rookie talent during this three day tournament at the Superior Propane Centre.
