Videotron Player of the Week | Nathan Darveau (October 30, 2023)
The latest Videotron Player of the Week in the QMJHL is Victoriaville Tigres goaltender Nathan Darveau. The 20-year-old from Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec went 2-0-1 on the week with a 1.65 GAA and .950% save percentage, as the Tigres vaulted into a tie for first place in the Western Conference.
On Wednesday night in Baie-Comeau, Darveau was magnificent despite a 2-1 overtime loss for the Tigres at the hands of the league-leading Drakkar. The overager turned aside 34 shots and was named the game’s second star while Victoriaville claimed a crucial point on the road.
At home on Friday night, the Tigres found themselves trailing the Shawinigan Cataractes 2-1 through forty minutes of play. The club would rally with four markers and a huge 21-save performance from Darveau in the third period alone, leading it to a 5-2 triumph over its long-time rival. Overall, the veteran netminder made 31 saves to preserve the Tigres win.
In Shawinigan on Saturday afternoon, Darveau was once again on top of his game. The netminder turned in a 32-save performance as the Tigres defeated the Cataractes 3-1. This time, Darveau was named the game’s first star while the Tigres earned at least a point for the eighth consecutive contest.
Darveau is in his third full season with the Tigres. After a tough 1-4-0-0 start to the campaign, he has turned things around, going 5-0-1-0 since October 15. He enters November ranked fifth in the league with a 2.65 GAA and sits sixth with a .914% save percentage.
