Ultramar Player of the Week: Nicolas Beaudin
Boucherville, Que. – The QMJHL’s Ultramar Player of the Week is defenceman Nicolas Beaudin (Voltigeurs | Drummondville) who picked up six points, including two goals, during the two games he played in over the past week.
Beaudin’s latest exploits have pushed him to the top of the leaderboard among the Q’s highest scoring defencemen, he who was season totals of six goals and 15 assists for 21 points in as many games.
Beaudin began the weekend by finding the back of the net on his lone shot on net of a 5-3 loss to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Friday night.
The next day, Beaudin offered quite a show to the Drummondville fans on hand in a 7-4 win over the Val-d’Or Foreurs. The Châteauguay native established new personal bests with four assists and five points in his team’s win, earning first star of the game honors along the way.
The blueliner also ended the weekend with a plus/minus differential of +6, pushing his season total to an impressive +17, the League’s second-best ratio.
After ending last season with 36 helpers and 41 points in 64 games, the 18-year-old is on pace to establish new bests if he can maintain his point-per-game average.
What makes Beaudin’s accomplishments even more remarkable is certainly the fact that the Voltigeurs are currently boasting the League’s worst power play with a 13.1% success rate.
The other players considered for the Ultramar Player of the Week were Mark Grametbauer (Wildcats | Moncton) and Alex Barré-Boulet (Armada | Blainville-Boisbriand). Grametbauer recorded two wins in as many games, first by stopping 35 pucks in a 3-2 win over the Drakkar, then by allowing a single goal on 28 shots in a 3-1 victory over Sherbrooke.
As for Barré-Boulet he led the Armada to a 7-4 win over the Huskies with a goal and two assists, before adding one of each on the very next day in a 4-3 win over the Titan.
