Ultramar Player of the Week: Drake Batherson
Boucherville, Que. – Drake Batherson (Screaming Eagles | Cape Breton) has been named Ultramar Player of the Week following the fifth week of action in the QMJHL. The centreman really impressed over the past week by contributing to 10 of the 16 goals scored in his team’s last three games.
Batherson’s recent performances have helped him take the pole position of the QMJHL’s top scorers, he who currently boasts a total of 24 points in 15 games played this season. Over the course of his last three outings, Batherson found the back of the net seven times – including two game-winning goals – and added three assists.
Batherson first scored two goals in a 4-3 win over the Saguenéens last Wednesday, including the overtime winner. Two days later, he amassed two goals and two helpers in a 7-6 overtime loss to the Cataractes.
Taking on the Sea Dogs on Sunday, the Screaming Eagles once again needed overtime before skating away with a 6-5 win. It was Batherson who once again saved the troops by scoring the game-tying goal midway through the third period, before netting the game-winner in the extra frame.
Batherson not only sits atop the league’s top scorers, but his six power play goals are also the most among all of his peers in that category.
Other players considered for the Ultramar Player of the Week honors are goaltenders Samuel Harvey (Huskies | Rouyn-Noranda) and Olivier Rodrigue (Voltigeurs | Drummondville). Harvey registered three wins in as many games played and amazingly stopped 100 of the 104 shots he had to face. As for Rodrigue, he also ended last week with three wins in three games in which he boasted a goals-against average of 1.31 and a .951 save percentage.
