Ultramar Player of the Week: D’Artagnan Joly
Boucherville, Que. – The Ultramar Player of the Week is D’Artagnan Joly (Drakkar | Baie-Comeau) who cumulated a whopping nine points in just three games last week. His numbers show five goals, four assists, a +5 differential and 19 shots on goal.
Joly, selected by the Calgary Flames in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, was relentless on offense as he garnered nine of his team’s 39 shots in a 6-3 win over the Shawinigan Cataractes on Wednesday. He had three points on the night, consisting of a goal and two assists.
On Saturday, the 18-year-old forward showed no signs of slowing down as he helped the Drakkar skate past the Val-d’Or Foreurs in a 5-4 victory, scoring two goals on the night.
The next day, as his team faced the Foreurs for a second straight game, he netted two goals and added two assists to help the Drakkar to a 7-1 win to close out the week.
Joly is currently on a seven-game stretch with at least one point, as well as being on a four-game streak with at least one goal. With three wins last week, Joly and the Drakkar have clinched a playoff berth to confirm their presence in the post-season.
Other players considered for the Ultramar Player of the Week are forward Otto Somppi (Mooseheads | Halifax) and defenseman Benjamin Gagné (Remparts | Quebec)
Somppi played in four games last week, scoring five goals and adding three assists, good for an eight-point week. He leads his team in assists with 51, which also places him at second overall in the QMJHL in that category, right behind Alex Barré-Boulet (Armada | Blainville-Boisbriand) who has 55.
As for Gagné, he had six points in three games last week, helping his team find three wins. He also had a +7 differential, being on the ice for just one goal from his opponents. On Sunday, he scored the game-winning goal against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, giving the Remparts their 12th overtime win and breaking the previous league record for overtime wins in a season of 11, set by the Huskies back in 2015-16.
