The QMJHL highlights its partnership with the CMHA as part of Mental Health Week
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) is pleased to highlight its partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association — Quebec Division (CMHA — Quebec Division and Maritimes Division) for Mental Health Week, May 2–8.
This partnership is part of the Let’s Talk program which aims to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention in communities across the League. Following its implementation in the QMJHL in 2017, various initiatives have been developed to promote the program such as player awareness workshops, awareness campaigns and in-game events.
The Let’s Talk program also provides support to players and their family and friends, which enhances the QMJHL Player Support Program that was created in 2009.
“The mental health of our players is important. These young men between the ages of 15 and 21 are transitioning from adolescence to young adulthood, which is a more vulnerable time in their lives. It is important to give them tools to help them and to be vigilant for any changes in their behaviour,” said Natacha Llorens, Director of Player Services. “We would like to sincerely thank the CMHA for its collaboration and support over the past few years. Their help has been particularly beneficial since the onset of the pandemic, which has brought us additional mental health challenges.”
“The CMHA—Quebec Division would like to acknowledge the QMJHL’s ongoing commitment to the well-being of its players. Youth and sports teams have been particularly affected by the impacts of the health crisis. We are pleased to renew our partnership with the League as part of the Let’s Talk program,” said Geneviève Fecteau, Executive Director.
