11 QMJHL Players at Canada’s National Under-18 Selection Camp
42 CHL players are vying for a spot on Canada’s team to be entered into the 2017 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament this coming month in Breclav, Czech Republic and Bratislava, Slovakia.
The 42 CHL players which include 20 from the Ontario Hockey League and 11 each from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and Western Hockey League are attending Canada’s National Under-18 Team Selection Camp at the Markin McPhail Centre in Calgary, Alberta from July 28 to August 1.
In its third summer, the National Teams’ Summer Showcase features camps for Canada’s three international junior teams including the National Under-17 team (Jul. 22-28, Calgary) that will compete in the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Dawson Creek and Fort St. John, BC, the National Under-18 team (Jul. 28-Aug. 1, Calgary) that will compete in next month’s Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in Breclav, Czech Republic and Bratislava Slovakia as well as the Canadian National Junior Team (Jul. 30-Aug. 5, Plymouth, Mich.) that will compete in the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Buffalo, NY.
The Canadian National Under-18 Selection Camp features 23 forwards, 15 defencemen and 4 goaltenders that will participate in practices and three red-white intrasquad games over the course of the weekend.
The camp roster features six players who helped guide Canada to a fifth place finish at the 2017 IIHF World Under-18 Hockey Championship in Poprad, Slovakia in April.
Ryan Jankowski, Hockey Canada’s former director of player personnel, was responsible for all player selections, with input from coaches and general managers from across the Canadian Hockey League.
Canada’s National Under-18 Team at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament will be coached by Brent Kisio (Lethbridge Hurricanes) along with assistants Drew Bannister (Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds) and Daniel Jacob (Blainville-Boisbriand Armada).
