Trukhno, Bartulis and Voracek win QMJHL player of the month awards
BOUCHERVILLE, Thursday, November 2, 2006 The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today announced the winners of the offensive, defensive and rookie of the month awards for October. The players were chosen by a League mandated committee.
The offensive player of the month is Viatcheslav Trukhno of the Gatineau Olympiques. The forward had quite a showing in October, tallying nine goals and twenty-three assists in twelve contests. Furthermore, he was a healthy +8 (plus/minus). The Olympiques are seated in second place in the Western division standings, two points behind the Shawinigan Cataractes.
The other players considered were forwards Brent Aubin (17-14-31) of Quebec, Danick Bouchard (18-11-29) of Shawinigan and Cam Fergus (9-18-27) of Cape Breton.
The defensive player of the month award winner is Oskars Bartulis of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. Bartulis posted impressive numbers: eight goals, including four on the power-play, and thirteen assists, while maintaining a +8 (plus/minus) differential. The Screaming Eagles currently sit in first place in the Eastern division standings thanks to a five-game winning streak.
Goaltender Kevin Desfossés (7-2; 531 MIN; 2.93 GAA; .911 SAV %) of Quebec and defensemen Mathieu Carle (3-14-17; +5) of Acadie-Bathurst and Chad Denny (4-8-12; +9) of Lewiston were also considered.
Among the rookies, forward Jakub Voracek of the Mooseheads takes home the hardware. The Halifax sniper collected six goals, including two game-winners, as well as twelve helpers in eleven games, while maintaining a +2 (plus/minus) differential. He leads his rookie class in scoring with twenty-five points in seventeen contests.
Forward Roman Bashkirov (11-6-17) of Quebec, defenseman Keven Dupont (2-3-5; +10) of Baie-Comeau, as well as goaltender Kevin Poulin (2-1; 223 MIN; 2.68 GAA; .912 SAV %) of Victoriaville were also considered.
