The 2005-06 QMJHL schedule is available
BOUCHERVILLE, Tuesday, May 31st, 2005 (QMJHL) The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League released today its regular season schedule for the upcoming 2005-06 campaign.
In total, 630 games will be played among the 18 teams next year. The schedule will have each team playing 70 games, with an even split of 35 home and 35 away games. Also, the schedule was devised in order to favor rivalries.
The League has opted for a two-division format. In the Western division, the teams will be the following: Baie-Comeau, Chicoutimi, Drummondville, Gatineau, Quebec, Rimouski Rouyn-Noranda, Shawinigan, Val-D’Or and Victoriaville. As for the Eastern division, it will host: Acadie-Bathurst, Cape Breton, Halifax, Lewiston, Moncton, PEI, Saint John (NB) and St.John’s (NL).
Opening night is slated for Thursday, the 15th of September 2005, as the Quebec Remparts visit the Rimouski Océanic. The regular season calendar sees all 18 teams in action on its final day, Sunday, March 19th, 2006.
Teams will benefit from a few recesses during the regular season. It will be on hold during the holidays from December 19th to the 26th and then on December 31st, 2005 as well as both January 1st and 2nd. Also, no games are scheduled from November 21st to the 24th, 2005 as the Canada Russia Challenge is set to hit the ice. Finally, no QMJHL games will be presented from January 16th to the 19th, 2006 since the CHL Prospects Game is scheduled for January 18th.
Approximately 73% of the games will be played on week-ends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday).
