Suspensions for Baie-Comeau and fines for both teams
(LONGUEUIL, Monday January 5, 2004) – The Disciplinary Prefect of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Maurice Filion, announced this afternoon suspensions for the Baie-Comeau Drakkar.
Further to the incidents which occurred during the game played Saturday December 27 as the Baie-Comeau Drakkar visited the Lewiston MAINEiacs, the Drakkar head-coach, Martin Laperrière, is suspended for a total of 10 games, two automatic and eight additional ones.
Also, during that game, player Jimmy Arsenault received the penalty code 4-8 for having been the first player to have left the bench during a fight or in order to start one. He went straight to the opponent team’s bench. Thus, for having done so, Jimmy Arsenault is suspended for a total of six games, five automatic, (item 66) and one automatic (code 4-16).
A fine of $1,000 is imposed upon the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. These sanctions are imposed according to item 66, paragraph d) of the QMJHL Rules and Penalty Codes and they are retroactive to Saturday December 27, 2003.
Finally, player Luis Tremblay is also suspended for a lack of respect and reprehensible gestures towards the fans and the opponent team. This type of behaviour is deemed totally unacceptable by the QMJHL and consequently, Tremblay is suspended for one game. The suspension is in effect today, Monday January 5, 2004.
The Lewiston MAINEiacs are fined $500 according to item 66, paragraph d) of the QMJHL Rules and Penalty Codes because player Gabriel Balasescu jumped on the ice.
