Season Ends In Quebec
The Quebec Remparts are headed to the QMJHL finals to vie for the President Cup. The number #4 ranked Remparts completed the sweep of the #2 seed Moncton Wildcats thanks to a 7-0 win at the historic Le Colisee Pepsi on Tuesday night in Game 4.
This marks the second consecutive sweep for Quebec in these playoffs. The Remparts needed just four games to get by the Charlottetown Islanders in the quarterfinals.
The line of Kurt Etchegary, Adam Erne and Anthony Duclair combined for 14 scoring points for Quebec. Etchegary fired a hat-trick, Erne with a pair while Duclair, and Vladimir Tkachev chipped in with singles
Zack Fucale stopped 25 shots for the shut-out in Quebec’s ninth straight playoff win this post season while Alex Dubeau allowed 7 goals on 30 shots to finish a remarkable career in Moncton.
Moncton struggled throughout this playoff series on the power play going 0-3 on Tuesday and 1-17 in the series while Quebec were 1-4 on Tuesday with the man advantage.
Moncton came into the series with a 2-0-0-0 regular season record over the Remparts and finished 12-points ahead of the Remparts in the overall standings.
This marks just the third time in Moncton Wildcats franchise history the team has been swept in a playoff series. The last time it happened was in 2011-12 when Halifax took four in a row in the first round.
Quebec opened the series with a pair of wins at the Moncton Coliseum 4-1 on April 23rd and 4-3 on Saturday April 25th. After a travel day Sunday the Remparts stymied the Wildcats attack for a 5-1 win on Monday April 27th.
This marks the final game in a Wildcats uniform for Dominic Talbot-Tassi, Taylor Burke and Alex Dubeau. Talbot-Tassi ( 67 GP 9 G-42 A =52 PTS) and Burke ( 56GP-16G-21A-37 PTS) were both acquired by the Wildcats this season in trades to add leadership to the franchise. Fan-favorite Alex Dubeau set the record for most career wins by a goaltender as a Moncton Wildcats in the regular season, with 101 wins while picking up 9 shutouts in his three seasons and a career goals against average of 2.83.
Quebec will now wait for the Rimouski / Val-D’Or series to finish to set the stage for the final series.
The winner of the Oceanic-Foreurs series will also earn a birth in the Memorial Cup as Quebec will automatically be there as the host team.
