Screaming Eagles Suffer 5-1 Loss To Océanic

  The losing streak continued for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles on Friday night as the Rimouski Océanic handed Cape Breton a 5-1 loss in front of 3,239 fans on hand at Centre 200.

  With the loss, the Screaming Eagles have dropped their last six-games and find themselves 16th overall in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s standings. 
 
  Francis Beauvillier, Scott Oke, Jasmin Boutet, Peter Trainor and Anthony DeLuca each had a goal for the Océanic, who improve to 16-9-1-3 on the season.

Michael Clarke scored the lone goal for the Screaming Eagles, who fall to 7-17-2-3 on the year.

  Rimouski jumped out to an early 1-0 lead at 1:20 of the first period as Francis Beauvillier picked up a Peter Trainor pass, he made no mistake for his 13th goal of the season, Trainor and Mathieu Leclerc were given the assists.

  The visitors made the score 2-0 on the power play as Scott Oke buried a Ryan MacKinnon rebound for his 13th goal of the season at 9:09 of the opening period, MacKinnon along with Anthony DeLuca added the helpers on the goal.

  The Océanic took a three-goal lead just 44 seconds later as Jasmin Boutet scored his second goal of the season, Michael Joly picked up the lone assist.

  Peter Trainor gave Rimouski a 4-0 lead just 57 seconds into the second period as he tipped in a Jean-François Plante shot for his 17th goal of the season, Plante along with Scott Oke found the score sheet with the helpers.

  Rimouski went up by five at 10:45 of the second period as Anthony DeLuca netted his eighth goal of the season going blocker side on Screaming Eagles goaltender Alex Bureau, Alexis Loiseau and Scott Oke were awarded with the assists.

  Cape Breton did break Philippe Desrosiers’ shutout bid at 16:31 of the third period as Michael Clarke scored his 10th goal of the season, Bronson Beaton and Billy Hartley were given the helpers on the goal.

  Philippe Desrosiers made 44 saves in the win for Rimouski, his record improves to 9-6-0-3, while Alex Bureau turned aside 22 of 27 shots in the loss for Cape Breton, his record falls to 2-4-1-0.

  The Screaming Eagles next game is on Sunday, December 2nd when they travel to Prince Edward Island to face the Rocket. Game time is scheduled for 3pm from the Charlottetown Civic Centre. Not in the lineup for Cape Breton: Kyle Campbell, Mitchell Shewfelt, Blake Millman, David Honzik, John-Michael Walsh (broken arm) and Simon Darveau (shoulder).

Not in the lineup for Rimouski: Defenseman, Lucas Grundy, Simon Boudreau (upper body) and Jan Kostalek (Broken Collarbone) as well as goaltender Carl Hozjan.

Pre-Game: The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles held their Girl Guides night at Centre 200 on Friday. Mylene Harpell (1st Sydney Brownies), Maya Kosick (1st Port Morien Guides) and Patrice Clark (1st Sydney Mines Pathfinders) dropped the ceremonial puck prior to the game. The Screaming Eagles 7th player for the game was Luke MacEachern, who traveled two hours from Port Hood to attend the game.

Culek Faces Former Team: Cape Breton Screaming Eagles left winger Jakub Culek faced his former team for the first time on Friday night since being traded to Cape Breton on November 14th. Culek had no points in the game.

Culek Leaves Game: Cape Breton Screaming Eagles left winger Jakub Culek left the game during the first period and never returned. No word yet on his status for Sunday’s game in P.E.I..

Point Streak Continues: Rimouski Océanic left winger Francis Beauvillier extended his point streak to six games on Friday night. The Florida Panthers prospect has scored at least one goal in his last six contests.

First Career QMJHL Point: Cape Breton Screaming Eagles defenseman Billy Hartley picked up his first career Quebec Major Junior Hockey League point on Friday night. The native of Dartmouth, NS, recorded an assist on Michael Clarke’s goal at 16:31 of the third period. Hartley was a 2011 invitee to Screaming Eagles training camp.

First Game Without Dupont: The Rimouski Océanic took to the ice on Friday night for the first time since assistant coach Danny Dupont left the hockey club to take the head coaching job in Acadie-Bathurst. Dupont joined the Titan on Wednesday following the team firing head coach Éric Dubois on Monday.

Leclerc In Océanic Lineup: Rimouski Océanic defenseman Mathieu Leclerc was in the Océanic lineup on Friday night. The Chicoutimi, Que., resident, who was called up by Rimouski on Thursday, picked up his first career Quebec Major Junior Hockey League point on an assist at 1:20 of the first period. Leclerc was drafted by Rimouski at the 2012 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Entry Draft in round 11, 195th overall.

Final Shots On Goal: 45-27 in favor of Cape Breton.

Cape Breton went 0/7 on the power play, while Rimouski went 1/2.

Dickies hardest working player of the game went to Kyle Farrell.
