Training Camp Recap – Day 1

It has reached that time of year again and the P.E.I. Rocket hit the ice at the Pownal Sports Centre to kick off this season’s training camp.
The first intra-squad game was played today between Team Red and Team White. Team White skated away with a 4-2 victory. The next game will go tomorrow at 2 p.m.
Teams played three 15-minute periods, but were interrupted by a power outage mid-way through the second period, which delayed the game for approximately 15 minutes.
Scoring for Team White were Kevin Laliberte, Rocket second-round pick in 2012; returning forward Louick Marcotte; Daniel Perigo, who played with the Truro Bear Cats last season; and second-overall pick Alex Pepin.
Team Red had goals from 18 year-old Connor Currie and Rocket forward Matt Bursey.
There was one fight in the game as Patrick McGrath and local boy Logan Doroin went to battle.
Jonathan Boutin, Jeremy Gallant and Charles-Oliver Lajoie shared the time in net for Team White to pick up the win.
Antoine Bibeau, Chris Gallant and Raphael Roy shared the time in goal for Team Red, taking the loss.
It was a lot harder than Midget Triple A, said Pepin.
“I have to step up my game and adjust my game to this new style.”
It was pretty exciting to finally start training camp, said Pepin.
“It’s like a family. You have to be 100 per cent every time.”
Pepin said he will earn a spot on the team by working hard, scoring goals and finishing checks.
“Everything should be fine.”
Camp resumes until Thursday.
The Rocket play their first exhibition game Friday night in St. John, and they host the Seadogs Saturday afternoon, in Pownal, at 2 p.m.
