Rocket Down Wildcats
PEI Rocket Jordan Escott scored a pair a goals to lead his team to a 5-2 victory over the Moncton Wildcats Sunday afternoon at the Moncton Coliseum. Travis McIsaac, Jean-Laurence Beauchemin and Victor Provencher added goals for the Rocket. Charles Johnson and Cedric LeBlanc recorded their first career QMJHL goals for the Wildcats. PEI goaltender Evan Mosher recorded the win stopping 35 shots while Philippe Trudeau made 22 saves in his Wildcat Debut.
The Wildcats and Rocket battled to a fairly even first period. The game remained scoreless until 17:32 mark of the first period. The Rocket countered on the power play when McIsacc banged the puck into a wide open net giving PEI a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Shots after the first period were even at 10 a piece.
The Cats came out and carried the play to start the second period but could not find the back of the net. Escott gave the Rocket a 2-0 lead at 13:20. Less then two minutes later Johnson score the Wildcat’s firs power play goal of the season cutting PEI’s lead in half. MsIsacc restored the Rocket’s two goal lead at 18:15 and 44 seconds later Beauchemin score to give PEI a 4-1 lead heading into the 3rd period. The Cats had a 12-7 shot advantage in the second period.
Just over two minutes into the third period, Provencher scored to give the Rocket a 5-1 lead. Cedric LeBlanc managed to get the Cats to within three at the 8:43 mark but that was as close as they would get. Shots in the third period were 15-10 in favor of Moncton, who held a 37-27 shot edge for the game. On the power play the Rocket were 1 for 4 while Moncton capitalized on one of their six chances.
The Wildcats are back in action next Friday night when the travel to Charlottetown to face the PEI Rocket. Next home game for the Cats is Wednesday September 29th, 2010 against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. Game time is 7PM at the Moncton Coliseum.
