Radulov and Denny win QMJHL player of the week awards
BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, March 20, 2006 (QMJHL) Forward Alexander Radulov of the Quebec Remparts and defenseman Chad Denny of the Lewiston MAINEiacs were named offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from March 13th to 19th, 2006.
In three games, Radulov scored eight goals and assisted on four others, while notching a +8 (plus/minus) differential. He had the best showing of his career yesterday; scoring seven goals and four assists in a 16-3 win over the Rimouski Océanic. He finished the season as the League’s top points getter, totalling 60 goals and 152 points. Moreover, during the course of the week, Radulov extended his point streak to 50 games, which came to a close in a 2-1 loss to Chicoutimi on Friday. The Remparts finished first in the Western division standings and will meet the Val-d’Or Foreurs in the first round of the playoffs.
Stanislav Lascek (4-7-11) of Chicoutimi, Mathieu Melanson (3-6-9) of Quebec and Maxime Boisclair (6-4-10) of Chicoutimi were also considered.
The defensive player of the week award goes to Chad Denny. In three games, the MAINEiacs defenseman registered three goals, including one game-winner, as well as three assists, while maintaining a +7 (plus/minus) differential. His best performance of the week came last Friday as he managed one goal and one helper, while taking five shots on net in a 6-1 win over the Saint John Sea Dogs in front of 3 375 fans at home. Denny ends the regular season with 45 points in 61 games. The MAINEiacs will battle the Halifax Mooseheads in the first round of the playoffs.
Other players considered for the defensive player of the week award were defensemen Patrick Coulombe (2-4-6) of Chicoutimi and Jules Melanson (1-2-3) of Drummondville as well as goaltender Gabriel Bouthillette (2-0-0; 80 MP; 1.50 GAA; .961 SAV%) of Acadie-Bathurst.
