QMJHL, teams to march alongside Veterans’ Week
BOUCHERVILLE, Wednesday, November 5, 2008 The Commissioner of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Gilles Courteau, today announced that the League and its member teams are proud to once again be a part of Veterans’ Week, which will be celebrated in several rinks from November 5 to 11.
"The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League is very proud to have the opportunity to celebrate Veterans’ Week alongside our Veterans for a fourth consecutive year," said the Commissioner. "Our Veterans’ heritage is rich in pride and history and we feel that it is very important to underline the sacrifices they have made for our great Country. The Memorial Cup, which is handed out since 1919, pays tribute to the Veterans of the First World War. In keeping with the tradition of the Memorial Cup, it is of the utmost importance that we remember their legacy and share it with future generations."
Puck-drop ceremonies to honour our Veterans were or will be held during these QMJHL games. Veterans will be on hand to partake in the presentations.
<u>Saturday, November 1</u>: Centre Henry-Léonard in Baie-Comeau; Aréna Jacques-Plante in Shawinigan; Moncton Coliseum.
<u>Thursday, November 6</u>: Halifax Metro Centre.
<u>Friday, November 7</u>: Centre Robert-Guertin in Gatineau; Colisée Desjardins in Victoriaville; K.C. Irving Regional Centre in Acadie-Bathurst.
<u>Saturday, November 8</u>: Colisée in Rimouski; Auditorium in Verdun.
<u>Sunday, November 9</u>: Colisée Pepsi in Quebec City; Charlottetown Civic Centre; Harbour Station in Saint John; Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston.
<u>Friday, November 14</u>: Centre air Creebec in Val-d’Or.

During Veterans’ Week 2008, from November 5 to 11, over one hundred activities across Quebec are being organized by Veterans Affairs Canada and its partners, such as the Royal Canadian Legion. This week of Remembrance commemorates all Canadian Forces Veterans – from the First World War to peacekeeping operations and current military missions. The activities will culminate on November 11 with three significant Remembrance Day ceremonies- one in Quebec City and two in Montreal.
