Q & A with Blake Millman
Q1: Tell us about your Minor Hockey career.
A1: I grew up playing minor hockey for the Alberton Regals then went on to play for the Western ‘AAA’ teams, including the Western Regals and Western Maroons.
Q2: Where did you play your Midget hockey?
A2: I played Midget with the Charlottetown Islanders of the PEI/NB Major Midget league. Two of my former teammates Ross Johnston (Moncton) and Alex Gallant (Prince Edward Island) are now playing in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. During my Midget career I won a provincial title as well as a well known tournament called the Monctonian in Moncton, New Brunswick.
Q3: You were an invite by the Screaming Eagles in 2010. Tell us a little bit about when you got the call. Were you glad about signing? Why?
A3: I received the call informing me I had been invited to the 2010 Screaming Eagles training camp from my former Midget coach Johnathan Murphy who is a scout with the Screaming Eagles. I was very excited when I received the call because I had heard nothing but good things about Cape Breton from Morgan Ellis.
Q4: You were born in Toronto, Ontario however your hometown is Alberton, Prince Edward Island. Tell us about Alberton and where it is located in PEI.
A4: Alberton is a small town in the Western part of PEI. I like Alberton because it is a small, quiet, laid back town where everyone is friendly. It’s a bit like Sydney although Sydney is much bigger.
Q5: You were invited to Phoenix Coyotes rookie camp back in September. Tell us about that experience.
A5: My experience in Phoenix was phenomenal it was beyond my imagination, from the way I was treated to the amazing weather it was truly an amazing experience. What I learned from going to a Pro Camp is that you can never be in good enough shape and that the pace is exceptionally faster.
Q6: Tell us some interesting facts about your family.
A6: My Parents names are Rod and Leanne Millman, my father is a carpenter/scaffolder and my mother is a Operational Clerk with Canada Revenue Agency. I have one brother, Evan, who is now playing defense for the Western Maroons of the PEI Bantam AAA league.
Q7: During the off-season you competed in the Prince County Exhibition’s youth strongman competition. Tell us a little bit about that and the experience.
A7: I attended the Prince County Strongman Competition because Alex Wallace the owner of Westend Elite which is the local gym I train at was looking for competitors and I thought it would be fun. As a little extra incentive he informed me there was a cash prize for the winner.
Q8: Who is the one person you would like to thank for getting you where you are today with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles? Why?
A8: I would like to thank my family for getting me where I am today. My parents for being so supportive and traveling all around Atlantic Canada with me and my brother for always providing me with his goaltending skills when I needed some target practice.
Q9:What are some goals you have for the remainder of the season?
A9: My goal for the remainder of the season is to improve my skating and hopefully earn another invite to Pro Camp.
Q10: What is one thing you like about Cape Breton
A10: My favorite thing about Cape Breton is how nice the people are. They are always willing to lend a helping hand whether it be for the community or for one another.
