Noticeable rises in attendance in eleven QMJHL markets
BOUCHERVILLE, Thursday, November 6, 2008 The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today revealed the first attendance report of the 2008-09 season. The statistics show that eleven of the League's eighteen clubs have noticed rises in their figures. The most noticeable hikes were in Drummondville (+18.4 %), Gatineau (+11.3 %), Moncton (+9.6 %) and Rimouski (+7.0 %), although overall figures show that there was a slight drop (-1.0 % or 33 fans per game) in average attendance. The QMJHL is averaging 3,285 fans per game through 160 regular season contests.
At the current pace, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League will surpass the two million mark in attendance for a fourth consecutive season. Of note, the all-time record was established in 2005-06 as 2,279,744 passionate fans attended games. Since the League’s first season in 1969, the number exceeds forty million.
