- Over the past three seasons from 2011 through 2013, the President Cup champion has also been the regular season champ. Should Baie-Comeau turn that same trick this year, they would become the 26th team to do so over the league’s 45 playoff seasons!
- Should the Drakkar win this huge Game 7 it would mark their first President Cup championship in team history. They of course fell just short a year ago losing in five games against the eventual Memorial Cup champion Halifax Mooseheads
- Eric Veilleux (BAC) – Now one win shy of his 64th career coaching win in the playoffs, he is about to join Richard Martel at No. 5 on the all-time list. His next win will also be his first in the President Cup having also won as a player with Laval in 1993. His assistant coach Claude Bouchard is gunning for his second President Cup ring, having also won one as the Foreurs’ head coach in 2001.
- The Val-d’Or Foreurs boast a pair of President Cup titles in their history thanks to a pair of Finals sweeps over Rimouski in 1998 and Acadie-Bathurst in 2001.
- It’s also worth noting that current Val-d’Or general manager Alexandre Rouleau raised the President Cup a player with the Foreurs in 2001. Same goes for new assistant coach Steve Begin how win with the Foreurs as team captain in 1998.
- Mario Durocher (VDO) – The Foreurs head coach won the President Cup in his first season behind the bench with the Victoriaville Tigers in 2002.
- Val-d’Or has already tied the league record for overtime games in a single playoff year with seven. The Foreurs have a 3-4 record in sudden death this spring.

- In this year’s race for the GUY LAFLEUR TROPHY awarded to the QMJHL PLAYOF MVP, who will follow Jonathan Drouin who earned the honour with Halifax in 2013?
- The last six winners have been forwards. The last goalie to earn it was Jonathan Bernier (Lewiston, 2007). Since it was first handed out in 1978, only 3 defencemen have ever won the Guy Lafleur Trophy with the last one being Danny Groulx (Victoriaville, 2002).
- The following is a list of past winners of the prestigious award.

In Game 6, he also set a new Foreurs franchise record by surpassing the previous club-mark of 31 points set by Kristopher Letang in 2007.

- The goalies have come up big in this series even though the scorelines can be misleading at first glance. The goals have also increased as the series has gone on. In fact there have been 20 combined goals scored over the last two games. (VDO 5 @ BAC 6 | BAC 3 @ VDO 6)
- Foreurs’ netminder Antoine Bibeau has been busy in this series, averaging 39 shots against per game, but he has still managed to maintain a .918 save percentage and 3.16 goals against average against the Drakkar.
- In the opposite crease, Philippe Cadorette picked up his third shutout of these playoffs in the opening game of this series. The Drakkar goalie still boasts the top goals against average in the league this postseason (2.19 in 21 games). Over the six games of this series, his GAA is very similar to his counterpart Bibeau (3.32) while facing an average of 32 shots. Cadorette now sits third all-time in league history with 31 career playoff wins, trailing Roberto Luongo (38) and Zachary Fucale (35).
MASTERCARD MEMORIAL CUP
The action will get underway on Friday, May 16 as the QMJHL representative will take part in the tourney’s opening game that night.
- On the OHL’s side, we already know who their representatives will be, including the host London Knights who will meet the QMJHL champs on Friday. Joining the Knights are the 2014 OHL Champion Guelph Storm who knocked off the North Bay Battalion in the playoffs final.
- The WHL representative punched their ticket to the MasterCard Memorial Cup thanks to a thrilling 4-2 Game 7 victory by the Edmonton Oil Kings over the Portland Winterhawks on Monday night in Portland. This marks the second WHL title for Edmonton in the past three seasons.
So there is one piece of the puzzle left. Enjoy Game 7 in Baie-Comeau, everyone!
