Couturier, Savard and Hrivik named TELUS Players of the Month
BOUCHERVILLE, Tuesday, January 5, 2010 The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today announced the winners of the offensive, defensive and rookie player of the month awards for December. The players were chosen by a committee mandated by the League.
Sean Couturier of the Drummondville Voltigeurs is the award-winner on offence. The power-forward collected six goals and seventeen assists in eleven games. Furthermore, he recorded at least one point in ten of the eleven contests. Finally, Couturier posted a +10 rating and registered thirteen hits. Drummondville won eight games in December and is first in the TELUS Central Division standings.
Mike Hoffman (Sea Dogs), Nicolas Deschamps (Wildcats) and Dmitri Kugryshev (Remparts) were also considered.
David Savard of the Moncton Wildcats gets the hardware on defence. In eleven games, the defenseman registered two goals and fourteen assists while posting a +8 rating. Furthermore, he collected fifteen hits and failed to register a point in only one contest. Moncton had the best showing in December, collecting 19 points in the standings.
Simon Jodoin (Wildcats), Marc-Antoine Desnoyers (Voltigeurs) and Nathan Beaulieu (Sea Dogs) were also in the mix.
Marek Hrivik gets the nod among the rookies. In eleven games the native of Slovakia collected seven goals and seven assists. Moreover, he maintained an excellent +12 rating. Hrivik helped the Wildcats register nine wins during the month of December. He is fifth in the rookie scoring race.
Stanislav Galiev (Sea Dogs), Adam Janosik (Olympiques) and Alexandre Comtois (Voltigeurs) also received consideration.
