Balasescu and Noye are the players of the week in the QMJHL
(Longueuil, Monday November 10, 2003)- The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announced today its players of the week, offensive and defensive, for the period of Monday November 3 to Sunday November 9, 2003.
Gabriel Balasescu of the Lewiston MAINEiacs is the offensive player of the week in the QMJHL. The right-winger from LaSalle scored three goals and added four assists for a total of seven points in three games. Gabriel scored a winning goal and got a minimum of two points at each game.
In a 3-2 loss on Wednesday November 5 against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, Balasescu scored twice and helped his team tie the game 2-2 at six minutes of the beginning of the third period. In a 6-1 victory over the Rimouski Oceanic on Friday, Gabriel scored one goal and got two assists on the three first goals of the game. Gabriel scored the winning goal (his second in the game) and participated to two of the three goals scored by teammate Alexandre Picard. Yesterday, in a 6-2 win over the Halifax Mooseheads, he got two assists.
Gabriel Balasescu was named second star of the game at each of his three games last week. The MAINEiacs scored this season as many goals as they have allowed (73 vs 74), got up in the East Division and are only two points away from the third rank held by the Chicoutimi Sagueneens (19). The Lewiston MAINEiacs will start a three-game trip in the Atlantic provinces this Friday in Cape Breton.

Left defenceman Tyler Noye of the PEI Rocket is the defensive player of the week in the QMJHL. The player from Calgary got two assists and a plus 5.
The PEI Rocket got two wins by shutout on the road last week, allowed only two goals and an average of 22 shots on goal per game (66 in total). On Thursday November 6 in Baie-Comeau, Tyler ended the game with +3. The Baie-Comeau Drakkar was limited to 19 shots in a Rocket victory of 5-0. Goaltender Ryan Mior obtained his first shutout in career Friday, in a 4-0 win over the Sagueneens in Chicoutimi. The Rocket dominated with 40 shots against only 22 for Chicoutimi. Noye ended the game with two assists and +2. Goaltender Sébastien Nolet got his third shutout of the season. The Rocket three-game in four nights trip ended in Rimouski yesterday, in a 3-2 win over the Oceanic, limiting the second best offensive team of the QMJHL to only 25 shots. Tyler Noye completed the game with only one shot in his statistics but Noye was not on the ice last week when the visiting team scored.
The PEI Rocket defense did very well last week as they allowed no goals while being shorthanded eight times. Tyler Noye has the best +/- of his team with +16 after the 23 first games of the season. He is followed by Michaël Lambert with +14. With one game to play, the PEI Rocket is only five points away (32 vs 37) from the leaders of the Atlantic Division, the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. The Rocket will host the Quebec Remparts this Thursday November 13, 2003.
