2006 Champion Remparts make grand return
The excitement in Québec City continued on Sunday, with the 2006 MasterCard Memorial Cup Champion Québec Remparts making their grand return to the Colisée.
The group that became the first non-host and non-league champion in CHL history to raise the Memorial Cup was met by excited fans and a large group of journalists eager to relive a little piece of MasterCard Memorial Cup history.
“It’s just so nice to be back here with all these guys,” said San Jose Sharks defenceman Marc-Edouard Vlasic with a smile. “Obviously winning was the highlight, but the whole tournament in Moncton that year was such a great time.”
Vlasic, whose number 44 hangs from the rafters of the Colisée was joined by other teammates that included captain Simon Courcelles, goaltender Cedrick Desjardins, star forward Angelo Esposito and several others.
“Just being here and seeing all of the faces makes it seem like yesterday,” said Esposito of the reunion. “It’s really good to be back in this building with all of these guys.”
The 2006 Québec Remparts were the last team in franchise history to win a MasterCard Memorial Cup and will be honoured prior to puckdrop on Sunday when the 2015 Remparts square off with the OHL Champion Oshawa Generals at 4:30pm ET on Sportsnet, TVA Sports and NHL Network.
