BMO Bank of Montreal CHL Top 10 Rankings: Week 17
The Canadian Hockey League today announced the BMO Bank of Montreal CHL Top 10 Rankings for the week ending Sunday February 1. The weekly rankings of the Canadian Hockey League's top 10 teams are selected by a panel of National Hockey League scouts.
The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles (38-12-1-2) hold the top spot once again this week after a 1-1-0-0 week that included a 4-0 win over the Drummondville Voltigeurs on January 31. The Pittsburgh Penguins returned first overall pick Marc-Andre Fleury to the Screaming Eagles late last week. Fleury, who has backed Canada to consecutive silver medals at the World Junior Championships, is expected to join the team this week. The Moncton Wildcats (36-14-3-0) racked up four wins last week and moved up one spot to seventh in the rankings.
The Kelowna Rockets (37-14-4-0) held the second spot after managing a 1-2-0-0 record last week that included a 1-0 win over the Spokane Chiefs on January 28. The win was goaltender Kelly Guard's 11th shutout of the season, breaking a 36-year-old CHL record set by Chris Worthy of the Flin Flon Bombers. The Medicine Hat Tigers (30-15-6-2) were undefeated in four games last week and worked their way into the top-10 for the first time this season.
The Guelph Storm (35-9-5-0) picked up wins in both of their games last week to extend their winning streak to eight straight games. They moved ahead of the London Knights (37-9-2-2) into fourth in the rankings. The OHL's top two clubs will face each other at the John Labatt Centre in London on Thursday night.
