Game Preview: Oshawa vs Sudbury
Game Preview: Oshawa vs. Sudbury
The Oshawa Generals will look to end a brief two-game losing streak when the Sudbury Wolves visit tonight. This will be the third meeting of four on the season, with the Wolves coming to Oshawa again on New Year’s Day. Oshawa won the first two games of the season series by scores of 5-4 and 4-2.
In the first game of the season between the teams back in October, Generals forwards Michael Dal Colle (1-2-3), Kyle MacLean (0-2-2) and Owen McDade (1-1-2) had strong performances for the visitors. A group of Wolves including Pavel Jenys (1-2-3), Kyle Capobianco (0-2-2) and Danny Desrochers (1-1-2) also had strong games. Anthony Cirelli would score the overtime winner to give the Generals a 5-4 victory. Jeremy Brodeur was in net for the win, making 26 saves on 30 shots.
The next matchup between the two teams came earlier this month, with Oshawa coming away with a 4-2 win. Cirelli, Lukas Lofquist and Mitchell Vande Sompel each had two-point nights while Logan Gauthier picked up the win in net. Sudbury had the shot advantage in the game, outshooting the Generals 35-28. The difference maker in the game, however, was the Generals power play, going 2/5 in the victory.
Sudbury is currently in the midst of a three-game winning streak. They have defeated Guelph, Niagara and Erie during that stretch. Coming off a 2-0 victory over the Erie Otters, the Wolves are looking to win their fourth straight when they visit the GM Centre on Sunday. Mikkel Aagaard led the way for the Wolves with one goal and one assist. Troy Timpano was in net for the shutout, his first of the season.
Oshawa will look to bounce back Sunday after falling to the Flint Firebirds 4-1 on Friday night. Dal Colle returned to the line-up after being returned from Team Canada’s World Junior camp, and was absolutely dominant. The Generals forward had 10 shots on goal, and his line with Domenic Commisso and Kenny Heuther controlled possession all game. Commisso would score his 10th goal of the season in the loss. Unfortunately, the Generals were faced with a strong goaltending performance from the Firebirds duo of Brent Moran and Brendan Johnston. The pair teamed up for 40 saves in the victory.
Puck drop is 6:05 PM as the Generals look to defeat Sudbury for the third time this season.
