Oshawa vs. Peterborough
The Oshawa Generals are coming into Thursday’s game looking to end a three-game losing streak. Most recently, the Generals suffered a 1-0 overtime loss to Eastern Conference leaders, the Kingston Frontenacs. Spencer Watson broke a scoreless tie, 26 seconds into overtime to hand the Generals their second overtime loss of the season. Logan Gauthier, who made his first OHL start against the Frontenacs, was excellent for the Generals making 25 saves in the loss.
Kenny Huether and Stephen Desrocher currently lead the Generals with 10 points each. Kenny Huether and Lukas Lofquist are tied for the team lead with five goals. Rookie, Jack Studnicka, has recorded seven assists in his first 11 games, which leads all Generals players.
Jeremy Brodeur has seen the majority of time in between the pipes for the Generals. Over the course of his seven games played, Brodeur has recorded a 1.57 GAA, a 0.941 save percentage and a league-leading four shutouts.
Similar to the Generals, the Peterborough Petes are coming off of a shootout loss at the hands of the Kingston Frontenacs. The Petes fell by a score of 4-3, giving them their second shootout loss of the season. The 12 points earned by the Petes so far has them sitting in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, while the Generals sit in sixth place.
The last time these two teams met, Jeremy Brodeur led the Generals to a 3-0 shutout win over the Petes behind goals from Matt Mistele, Anthony Cirelli and Joe Manchurek.
The Petes return this season without three of their top four scorers from a year ago. Eric Cornel, a 2014 second round selection of the Buffalo Sabres and the Petes top returning point scorer from a year ago, currently sits second on the team with 10 points. Hunter Garlent leads with Petes with 14 points on three goals and a team-high 11 assists. Greg Betzold has also recorded 10 points and leads the team with nine goals.
Dylan Wells and Matthew Mancina have been splitting time in net to start the season for the Petes. Through five games, Wells had recorded three wins, a GAA of 3.15 and a save percentage of 0.918. Wells is coming off of a 46 save performance in the Petes 4-3 shootout loss to the Frontenacs. Mancina is also coming off of a huge 45 save performance in a 4-3 shootout loss to the league-leading and undefeated, Erie Otters. Mancina has started in five games this season recording a 2.76 GAA and a 0.918 save percentage.
