Weekend Look ahead for the Generals
The Oshawa Generals hit the road in the first two games of this weekend’s action, heading first to Barrie for their tilt with the Barrie Colts on Thursday and then off to Hamilton on Friday to take on the Hamilton Bulldogs. The Generals kicked off the 2017 year with a New Year’s Day win over the Ottawa 67’s and are looking to carry that momentum into the weekend.
All eyes will be on Thursday night’s game between the Generals and Colts as it is the only game in the league that night. The Generals won the only meeting this season between them and the Colts at home 4-2 thanks to stellar performances from Mitchell Vande Sompel and Domenic Commisso. Newly acquired defenseman Matthew Brassard will be making his return to Barrie in unfamiliar colours. Brassard tallied 14 points in 29 games with the Colts and will be looking to show his new teammates and fans what he can do with the puck. Puck drop is at 7:30 pm!
The Gens get back on the bus and head down to Hamilton to take on the Bulldogs for a 7:30 puck drop. The Gens have taken all three games so far this year, outscoring the Bulldogs 8-3. A big part of their success in the series, and this season as a whole, is the play of goaltender Jeremy Brodeur, who is sporting a .921 save percentage and has 18 wins on the season. In the three previous meetings, Brodeur has stopped a total of 103 of 106 shots the Bulldogs took. Brodeur will be looking for his teammates in front of him to step up and relieve the pressure.
The team will have a day off Saturday in preparation for Sunday’s home game against the Kingston Frontenacs. The Gens lost the only meeting between the teams so far this season 3-2 in overtime and will be looking for a very different result in front of their home crowd. With captain Anthony Cirelli and Renars Krastenbergs back after missing time due to the World Junior Championships, the Gens offense will be looking to come out firing and increase their 9 point lead over their division rivals. Before the game the Generals will honour players from both teams who have played for their countries internationally during the 2016/2017 season. Puck drop is at 6:05 pm.
