Five Generals invited to NHL Rookie Camps
Oshawa, Ont. – As we approach the beginning of our return to OHL hockey, we are excited to share with #GensNation, five of your favourite Generals are headed to NHL Rookie Camps. David Jesus (Arizona), Brett Harrison (Boston) Ty Tullio (Edmonton), Tye McSorley (LA), and Lleyton Moore (Toronto) will all have the unique opportunity to show off their hockey skills and IQ at the NHL level.
Following a successful rookie season with the Generals, David Jesus has been invited to the Arizona Coyotes Rookie Camp, taking place this September. Playing in 61 games, the 6’3 Toronto, Ont., native scored 11 points, including his first career OHL goal on September 29th against Kingston. During the extended off-season caused by COVID-19, Jesus joined teammate Ty Tullio and now former teammate Allan McShane in Slovakia, where he played 20 games for Liptovsky Mikulas. Jesus scored two goals and three assists while overseas.
Brett Harrison scored 21 goals during his rookie season in 2019-2020, the most by a 16-year-old since John Tavares scored 45 goals in his rookie season. Add in his 16 assists and the Dorchester, Ont., born forward earned the attention of many NHL scouts. It was all worth it when the Boston Bruins used their third-round pick on the Generals forward, adding him to their prospects pool. Harrison will join the rest of Boston’s 2021 draft class at their 2021 rookie camp.
A member of the NHL’s 2020 draft class will finally get his chance to directly impress the Edmonton Oilers brass. Ty Tullio was drafted in the fifth round of the 2021 NHL draft and has since been off the ice for much of the time due to COVID-19. Without an OHL season to impress the likes of Ken Holland and Dave Tippet, Tullio played a stint in Slovakia with the aforementioned Liptovsky Mikulas. In 19 games with the club, Tullio scored four goals and nine assists. He also had the opportunity to join the AHL affiliate Bakersfield Condors to take in practices and to travel with the club.
Known as one of the tougher guys on the Generals roster, Tye McSorley finds himself looking to prove he also brings a gritty offensive upside to his game as well. With limited playing time during the 2019-2020 season, McSorley scored his first career OHL goal on October 5 against the Hamilton Bulldogs. On a deep roster, he found himself in and out of the lineup, only appearing in 36 games. The style of play of the Brampton, Ont., native has not gone unnoticed though, as he earned an invite to take part in the Los Angeles Kings’ rookie camp.
One of the fastest defenceman in the OHL, Lleyton Moore continues to turn heads as he works his way towards an NHL career. Moore has quickly become a staple on the Generals’ blueline, not only for his ability to keep the puck out of his net but also his ability to help put it in his opponents as well. In 57 games during the 2019-2020 season, Moore scored six goals and added 22 assists from the backend, including two powerplay goals. The 2018 OHL first-rounder will be looking to impress the Toronto staff when he takes part in their rookie camp this September.
