A Great Teddy Bear Toss Night!
18th Annual Teddy Bear Toss
On Sunday, Dec 13th, 5889 fans were in attendance for the 18th Annual Teddy Bear Toss at the General Motors Centre, presented by Meineke Car Care. This very special evening happens once every year and never fails to demonstrate the spirit and generosity of Generals fans.
The Teddy Bear Toss process is simple – fans purchase a brand new teddy bear to bring to the game, after the first Generals goal is scored, fans take to their feet and throw all of the bears onto the ice. Thousands of teddy bears are thrown onto the ice and are then totalled up and delivered to a local charity. This year, all of your generous donations support the Durham Children’s Aid Foundation, located right here in Oshawa.
At 4:48 in the first period, Anthony Cirelli stepped up and scored the Teddy Bear Toss goal. An amazing 6017 bears were tossed onto the ice this year, making Christmas a little bit more special for many deserving children.
During the game, Durham Children’s Aid Foundation raised $2,833.00 just from “Pass the Bucket” donations. They also raised $980 from the sale of Teddy Bears at the game that were donated by Meineke Car Care.
The Oshawa Generals would like to thank everyone who came out to support another year of the teddy bear toss and we look forward to next year’s event. To see photos of the event go here.
The money raised on Sunday and all the bears will go towards Durham Children’s Aid Foundation facilitates Holiday Hope campaign. Durham Children’s Aid Foundation facilitates an annual Holliday Hope Program that supports hundreds of families and youth within Durham Region by helping to provide gift hampers for the holidays. The Holiday Hope Program partners with individuals and community organizations to provide toys, clothing and food vouchers to children and youth to celebrate the holiday season. The children and youth are currently receiving service from the Durham Children’s Aid Society and living at home with their caregiver. Last year, the program distributed 700 gift hampers to families that included 1,885 children and youth.
The Durham Children’s Aid Foundation (DCAF) was established in 2004 and is a registered charity that supports children and youth associated with the Durham Children’s Aid Society. DCAF can extend a helping hand to those children and youth in need, to help break the cycle of abuse and neglect and to foster the healthy development of children/youth into socially responsible adults. The areas supported by the Foundation are services not covered by government funding.
Thank you to #Gensnation and to Meineke.
