Burroughs OT Winner Leads Attack Over Otters
The Owen Sound Attack were back in action tonight looking to make three in a row against the Erie Otters at the Bayshore. They did just that scoring a 6-5 overtime victory over the Otters. Ethan Burroughs led the way with 4 points for the Attack including the overtime winner. Deni Goure and Sam Sedley each had three point with Goure tallying 2 goals and an assist , while Sedley had a goal and two assists. Landen Hookey and Colby Barlow had the other goals for the Bears. Corbin Votary made 40 saves to tally his first win on the season.
It was a fast-paced start to the game with both teams looking to gain momentum early on. Spencer Sova got Erie on the board first just over a minute into the game giving the Otters a 1-0 lead. The Attack looked to generate a quick response and forced Lalonde to make a number of key saves to keep the Otters ahead 1-0. Cedrick Guindon and Colby Barlow broke into the Erie zone on an odd man rush challenging Lalonde to make a big glove save. Votary came up huge on a short-handed Erie chance making sure to keep his team only down by a goal. Owen Sound would tie the game when Sam Sedley banged home a loose puck past Lalonde to tie the game at 1. The Attack continued to apply the pressure late in the period testing Lalonde. The first period ended with the score tied a 1.
Owen Sound had several good chances early in the second on the Power Play but could not find the back of the net. The Attack stuck to their game plan and pressured Erie in their own zone. Owen Sound was rewarded with a Landen Hookey goal just 45 seconds into the period, giving Owen Sound a 2-1 lead. Both teams continued to press forcing the goaltenders to make key saves. Colby Barlow added to the Attack lead when he blasted a shot past Lalonde on the Power Play giving the Attack a 3-1 lead. Owen Sound defenders did an excellent job in their own zone blocking shots and not allowing Erie to get many high scoring opportunities. Midway through the period, Alexis Daviault put Erie back within a goal making it a 3-2 Attack lead. Erie continued to push and were rewarded a few minutes later with a Malcolm Spence goal to tie the game at 3. The fast-paced action continued in the period when Goure put the Attack ahead 4-3 with 5 minutes to go in the period. The middle frame ended with Owen Sound holding a one goal lead at 4-3.
Early in the third, Goure broke in on a 2 on 1 rush into the Erie zone forcing Lalonde to be quick in the crease. The Otters tied the game with a Power Play goal early in the period off the stick of Sam Alfrano. Owen Sound continued to work on the Penalty kill with several Erie man advantages to start the period. Casey Terrence tied the game for the Otters on the Power Play. Owen Sound continued to press looking to tie the game and had several strong chances stopped by Lalonde. Late in the game, Goure forced a turnover in the Erie zone and beat Lalonde to once again tie the game. The fans at the Bayshore were treated to some extra action with an overtime period.
Early in the extra frame both teams had several good rushes and scoring opportunities leading to some great action. Barlow had a chance to win the game after some great plays on offence by the Attack, however, Lalonde was solid in net for the Otters. Ethan Burroughs was able to ice the win for the Attack using his speed to break away from Erie defence before beating Lalonde
Owen Sound is back in action on Monday when they travel to North Bay to take on the Battalion at 2:00 PM. Then they will hit the road again next weekend when they travel to Sudbury on Saturday, October 13 then to Sault St. Marie on Sunday, October 14. After another Friday night in Kitchener, the Attack will return to the Bayshore on Saturday, October 21st to take on the Brantford Bulldogs at 7pm, then finish off 3-in-3 weekend with a Sunday matinee against the Kingston Frontenacs. Sunday’s game wis the first Investment Planning Counsel Sunday when’re kids will be able to skate with the team following the game.
