Bears Top Dogs in Midweek Clash
Ethan Burroughs scored twice within the first ten minutes of the game, with his second marker holding up as the game winner, as the Owen Sound Attack snatch a big 5-1 win over the Niagara Ice Dogs in a midweek night clash.
Both of Burroughs’ goals came when he found himself unopposed at the top of the Ice Dogs crease, as the Attack forward needed just to tap the puck into a wide open net each time. The second goal for Burroughs not only put Owen Sound up by a pair, but was also a milestone mark for the Georgetown, ON native, as it marked his 100th career OHL point.
Riding off of the pair of goals by Burroughs, the Attack controlled the opening 20 minutes of the game, as they were all over the home town Ice Dogs, not giving them any room to generate offence.
The second period was a slightly different story, as the Ice Dogs came out with a bit more hunger and were able to push back against the Attack, even cutting into the Bears lead just before the midway point of the period. Owen Sound, though surrendering a goal, stayed composed and slowly began to regain momentum in their favour, as they were able to get a late period power play opportunity, which eventually saw big Kaleb Lawrence tip a high point shot that eluded the Ice Dogs goalie. Though reviewed the goal stood and the Attack had regained their two goal lead going into the final 20 minutes of action.
It was captain and top 2023 NHL Draft Prospect Colby Barlow showing a nose for the net early in period three, as he went crashing hard into the post just after deflecting home a Nolan Seed back door pass. Barlow would leave the game momentarily, but did not miss a shift as he stayed in the game, and was a dominant force all night.
Owen SOund’s scoring was capped off when Cedrick Guindon followed up a Burroughs and Servac Petrovsky 2-on-1 rush, unopposed to chip in his 13th of the season and seal the Attack’s 5-1 victory.
In net goalie Nick Chenard, though not tested often was solid when the Ice Dogs did get small amount of pressure. The over age net minder now had 10 wins on the season and 40 for his career, as he looks to chase down that 50 win milestone.
The Attack finish off their five game road trip Thursday night against division rival Erie Otters, before returning home to the Bayshore Saturday night for another divisional matchup, this time against the Guelph Storm.
