Bears get Back in Win Column with Rout of Sting
After scoring just twice in the past two games, the Owen Sound Attack exploded, as they routed the visiting Sarnia Sting 6-2 Wednesday night at the Bayshore.
Rookie netminder Carter George got the call for his second career start, as he stared down both the top offensive player, along with one of the top goalies in the league, in Ty Voit and Ben Gaudreau. George was more than solid throughout the night, as he made a handful of highlight reel glove saves, looking as calm as a cucumber while doing so.
On the other side of the puck, the Attack were led by Deni Goure’s four point effort, as he netted a pair of goals and added a couple assists to go along side them. It looked as though Goure had completed the hat-trick with a goal of the night candidate, but the goal was called back for a high sticking penalty.
Overall the Attack had five different goal scorers and with 13 different players register a point.
It wasn’t a perfect game in any means by the Bears, as they were forced to kill off eight Sarnia power plays, but a strong PK group along with George in net, iced the Sting’s extra man, as Owen Sound went a perfect 8-for-8 shorthanded. Though taking a high amount of penalties, the Attack never deterred from their aggressive style, taking the game to Sarnia from start to finish.
There was a moment in the latter half of period two where it looked as though the Sting were going to try for a comeback, as they cut into the Attack’s 3-0 lead. However, it was some quick strike offence by Cedrick Guindon and Tomislav Brennan, who scored just 22 seconds apart with under three to play in the period, to stake Owen Sound to a 5-1 lead going into the final frame.
Owen Sound hits the ice for a double-header this weekend, as they welcome the Erie Otter to the Bayshore for a pair of games.
