Attack Win Return to Bayshore for Third Straight
It was the first game back at the Bayshore since the calendar flipped to 2023, and the Owen Sound Attack did not disappoint the near sellout, sending the fans home happy with a big 6-4 win over the rival Guelph Storm on Saturday night.
The night started off with the Attack hounding the Storm all over the ice, as they fed off a ruckus Bayshore crowd. As the period went on and the Attack were unable to find the back of the net, a sense of dread and unease began to set in, as a single shot could completely pop Owen Sound’s momentum.
Fortunately for all the Attack faithful and the players themselves, it was captain Colby Barlow netting a goal in hs seventh straight game, to give Owen Sound a 1-0 lead. The top line of Barlow-Deni Goure-Cedrick Guindon, would strike once again, this time it was Goure who cleaned up a rebound off a Barlow chance to put Owen Sound up by a pair.
The lead was stretched to 3-0 just 46 seconds into period 2, when Servac Petrovsky pounced on a loose puck in the slot and buried it into an empty cage. From that point Guelph began to push back and just over three minutes later were able to break Attack goalie Corbin Votary’s shutout bid, as they banged home a rebound chance of their own.
The game would remain at 3-1 until late in period two, when the Storm would cut the lead to just a goal, but Gavin Bryant needed just 22 seconds to respond for Owen Sound, sniping a perfect shot from just above the goal line as he caught the Storm goalie cheating off his post.
Holding a two goal lead going into the final 20 minutes, the Attack played a more defensive style and were caught just over a minute in, as the Storm once again pulled within a goal. It was just over the halfway point of the period when the captain once again came through with his second of the night to restore Owen Sound’s two-goal lead.
There were some tense moments late in the game, as Guelph would again cut the lead to just a single goal, but with just under a minute left on the clock Petrovsky would seal the game with his second of the night, hitting the empty netter.
The win was the Attack’s third in a row, as they claimed a victory in all three of their showings this past week. Owen Sound will now get set for a busy week coming up beginning with a rare Tuesday night tilt against the Barrie Colts at the Bayshore.
