SUNDAY’S WHL ROUND-UP
ROCKETS EDGE SILVERIPS – Geordie Wudrick and Shane McColgan scored in a shootout to lift the visiting Kelowna Rockets to a 4-3 win over the Everett Silvertips in the lone Western Hockey League contest on Sunday.
Mitchell Callahan scored twice and set up another while Zach Franko notched a goal and an assist for the Rockets (2-4-0-0), who rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the third period to send the game to overtime and the eventual shootout. Rookie Jordon Cooke made 35 saves through regulation and overtime, then denied both ‘Tips’ shootout attempts to earn his first career WHL win.
Tyler Maxwell scored twice and Campbell Elynuik also scored for the Silvertips (4-1-0-1), who drop their second straight decision after opening the season with four consecutive victories. Kent Simpson made 20 saves in regulation and overtime, but was beaten twice in the shootout for the loss.
