Two more teams confirmed their spots in their respective conference championships Friday, factoring into the latest edition of the WHL Three Stars!
Though they didn’t clinch, the Swift Current Broncos are now one win away from confirming their place in the Eastern Conference Championship following a 36-save shutout from goaltender Stuart Skinner (Edmonton Oilers). Skinner stopped 14 shots in the first, 10 in the second, and 12 in the third for his third shutout of the 2018 WHL Playoffs Friday as the Broncos blanked the Moose Jaw Warriors by a 2-0 final. Through 12 games in the 2018 WHL Playoffs, Skinner is now 7-5 with a 2.28 goals-against-average, .931 save percentage and the aforementioned three shutouts.
Earning second stars honours was Lethbridge Hurricanes goaltender Logan Flodell, who stopped 32 shots in a 3-0 win against the Brandon Wheat Kings to capture their best-of-seven series in five games. Flodell stopped 11 shots in the first, 12 in the second, and nine in the third for his second shutout of the 2018 WHL Playoffs. In 10 games during the 2018 WHL Playoffs, Flodell has an 8-2 record, 2.77 GAA, .910 SV% and two shutouts.
Rounding out the WHL Three Stars Friday was Everett Silvertips defenceman Jake Christiansen, who scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in his team’s 4-0 victory against the Portland Winterhawks. The two goals were the first of Christiansen’s WHL Playoffs career, giving him six points (2G-4A) in 29 career WHL Playoffs games.
