Wheat Kings goaltender Eskit named Kal Tire WHL Rookie of the Week
Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today Brandon Wheat Kings netminder Ethan Eskit has been named Kal Tire WHL Rookie of the Week for the week ending November 26, 2023.
The 17-year-old posted a sparkling 1.22 goals-against average and .953 save percentage in two starts and one relief appearance in three straight nights on the road this week.
Eskit shined in a 2-0 loss at the hands of the Red Deer Rebels on November 24, saving 29 of 30 shots on net, earning first-star honours.
The Calgary-born puckstopper was called on again the next night to relieve starter Carter Bjarnason in a high-scoring affair against the Central division-leading Medicine Hat Tigers. Eskit turned away seven of eight shots faced in enemy territory, though the Wheaties would fall short again by a score of 6-1.
Eskit followed that up by hitting the crease for the third time in as many days, stopping 25 of 26 shots from the Prince Albert Raiders in a 3-1 victory. The win snapped a two-game skid for Brandon.
In his first full WHL season, Eskit is 3-5-0-0 in eight starts and sports a 3.86 goals-against average and .872 save percentage.
