Raiders 30th Anniversary Plans
Prince Albert, Saskatchewan The Prince Albert Raiders have finalized plans for their 30th anniversary celebrations. There will be two separate occasions: Saturday, December 15th as part of the Raiders game with the Moose Jaw Warriors and Saturday, February 9th, a banquet to announce the All-Time Raider Team, as selected by the fans.
Saturday, December 15th Raiders vs. Warriors 7:30 PM Comuniplex
December 11, 1971 was the first ever Raiders game at the Comuniplex (vs. Regina Pats). On Saturday, December 15, 2001, the Prince Albert Raiders plan to mark the anniversary with a number of special happenings. Special 30th anniversary jerseys have been ordered from Bauer/Nike Hockey, official suppliers to the WHL. These jerseys are replicas of the jerseys worn by the Prince Albert Raiders of the 1971-72 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League season.
Many members of the original Raider team have been invited to attend and will be introduced on ice, pre-game. As well, Mr. Val Longworth who was the mayor of Prince Albert in 1971 and who dropped the opening puck in first game in the Comuniplex will return to drop the ceremonial face off on December 15. The first referee, Ed Lyster also has been invited to attend.
To mark this occasion, the City of Prince Albert will be offering special prices on selected items at the Concessions!
Following the game there will be a special reception for the invited guests in the Ches Leach Room the public is invited to. There will be Beef on a Bun served. Cost is $7 for adults and $5 for children and advanced tickets can be purchased at the Raider Office. At this event some of the replica jerseys will be auctioned off.
Saturday, February 9th, 2002 30th Anniversary Banquet
Ballots will be circulated at Raider games, through the Prince Albert Daily Herald and available on the Internet at the Raiders website (www.raiderhockey.com) for fans to select their All-Time Raider team. We ask all fans to consider the 30 years of Raider hockey from 1971-2001 when making their selections. All votes need to be turned in to the Prince Albert Raiders office by December 31, 2001.
At the 30th Anniversary Banquet on Saturday, February 9th at 6:00 PM in the Ches Leach Room, the All-Time Prince Albert Raiders team, as selected by the fans will be announced. The All-Time team members will be invited to attend, or to send an electronic greeting. There will be entertainment during the night and replica jerseys of the First All-Star team will be auctioned off.
The Raiders would like to invite all former players, staff, billets, board of directors, minor officials and fans to this special event. Tickets are $25 each and will be available in the Raiders office December 1st.
