Broncos & Hurricanes to battle for Eastern Conference crown
With a decisive victory in Game 7 of their second round series, the Swift Current Broncos eliminated the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy-champion Moose Jaw Warriors, advancing to the WHL’s Eastern Conference Championship and setting a date with the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes punched a ticket to the conference championship for the second consecutive year after using five games to erase the Brandon Wheat Kings from the WHL playoff picture.
It has been a long, difficult road to the conference championship for the Broncos. Not only did they need seven games to get past the Warriors, they also went the distance before defeating the Regina Pats in a best-of-seven first round matchup.
Meanwhile, the Hurricanes knocked off the Red Deer Rebels in five games in the first round before dispatching Brandon in the second round.
Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Championship will go at Friday, April 20 at 7 p.m. from the Innovation Credit Union i-Plex in Swift Current. Game 2 is set for Saturday evening. The series will shift to the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge, with Game 3 set to go Tuesday, April 24 at 7 p.m. MT.
