Broncos’ captain Gawdin signs with Calgary Flames
The good news for the Swift Current Broncos continued Thursday as captain Glenn Gawdin signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Calgary Flames.
Gawdin has been enjoying a career year with 40 points (14G-26A) in 18 games, producing at a rate of 2.22 points-per-game. He also has six power play goals, one short-handed goal and has been credited with 250 face-off wins.
The Broncos have been one of the great early stories this season, holding their own in a fierce East Division, sitting second with a 13-4-1-0 record. With teammates Tyler Steenbergen (Arizona Coyotes) and Aleksi Heponiemi (Florida Panthers), the trio have taken the league by storm, sitting first, second and third in the league scoring race, combining for 137 points (57G-80A) in 18 games.
A 6-foot-1, 186-pound centre from Richmond, B.C., Gawdin made his debut in December 2012 and has been one of the team’s most-consistent leaders during that stretch, with 228 points (84G-144A) in 263 games. Gawdin was originally drafted by the Broncos in the first round, fifth overall, of the 2012 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.
The Broncos are on the road against the Medicine Hat Tigers Friday, November 17 (7:30 p.m. MST) at the Canalta Centre.
Congratulations @GGawdin! We are very proud of your accomplishments!! https://t.co/cjUfgZSIDy
