2019 Memorial Cup Presented by Kia: Huskies hand Raiders second straight loss
Halifax, N.S. – It was there for the taking, but a late strike from Tyler Hinam sunk the Prince Albert Raiders in Game 4 of the 2019 Memorial Cup Presented by Kia on Monday evening.
Hinam, the local product from Cole Harbour, N.S., scored his second goal of the night to break a 3-3 deadlock with 4:32 to go in regulation and the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies went on to secure a 6-3 win over the WHL champions.

On the game-winning goal, New York Islanders prospect Noah Dobson sliced his way into the offensive zone before throwing a puck towards the blue paint from the side of the net. The bouncing biscuit eventually landed on the stick of the 6-foot-1, 194-pound Hinam and he chipped it past a helpless Ian Scott to give the Huskies a 4-3 lead.
Peter Abbandonato added an insurance marker before Dobson salted it away with an empty netter as Rouyn-Noranda claimed their first win of the tournament. The loss dropped the Raiders to 0-2-0-0, setting up for a do-or-die Game 5 against the OHL champion Guelph Storm on Tuesday night.
The Raiders got off to a quick start in Game 4 but were unable to convert on the scoresheet. On the opening shift of the game, Prince Albert owned the puck, eventually leading to a great chance for Parker Kelly, who rang the puck squarely off the iron.
Shortly thereafter, Hinam opened the scoring 4:34 into the first period when he made the most of a bad angle, banking the puck in off Scott for a 1-0 Huskies lead.
The Raiders responded quickly with a pair of goals from a pair of Estevan products as Cole Fonstad and Brayden Pachal converted with back-to-back tallies only 5:15 apart.
Before the first period came to a close, the Huskies use a power-play opportunity to draw even as Joel Teasdale sent another past Scott, once again from a tricky angle, with 1:28 to go.
Felix Bibeau put the Huskies back in front midway through the second period. A bouncing puck down low eventually found its way into the slow, where Bibeau sent a quick riser past Scott for a 3-2 lead.
Noah Gregor pulled the Raiders square heading into the second intermission. After Fonstad executed a clean zone entry, he dropped for Gregor whose first attempt didn’t make it through. Sticking with the play, Gregor’s second attempt found its way past Samuel Harvey with 2:17 to go in the second period.
Gregor, a prospect of the San Jose Sharks, finished the night with a goal and two assists. Fonstad also registered a multipoint performance for the Raiders, collecting a goal and an assist. Between the pipes, Scott turned aside 27 of the 32 shots sent his way.
At the other end of the rink, Harvey made 30 saves on 33 shots for the Huskies.
Next up, the Raiders face the Guelph Storm on Tuesday evening (5 p.m. MT/8 p.m. AT). A victory will ensure Prince Albert factors into a tiebreaker scenario while a loss will eliminate the Raiders from the tournament.
The Huskies close out round-robin action on Wednesday (5 p.m. MT/8 p.m. AT) when they take on the host Halifax Mooseheads.
