GAME RECAP: Americans pull out late 5-4 over Silvertips in Kennewick
KENNEWICK, Wash. — A fortuitous bounce off a Silvertip skate proved to be the game-winner for the Tri-City Americans, as they downed the Silvertips 5-4 at the Toyota Center Sunday night.
Drew Freer opened the scoring for Tri-City by tapping in a 2-on-1 rush at 6:25 in the first for the lone goal of the opening period. A Julius Miettinen powerplay goal at 1:20 pulled the Tips even in the second period.
Brandon Whynott netted the first of what would be two at 3:21 in the second period on the powerplay. Dominik Rymon knotted the score with a penalty shot at 18:03, but Whynott struck again just 15 seconds later to restore the Americans’ lead. Carter Bear responded for Everett just 30 seconds later with a wraparound goal, his third of the season, sending the game into the second intermission tied 3-3.
Rymon potted his second of the contest with a highlight-reel-caliber shorthanded breakaway goal at 4:08 in the final frame. Tri-City responded on the powerplay at 8:39 as Jake Gudelj snuck a shot through traffic home from the blueline.
With 1:32 remaining on the clock, a Parker Bell shot ricocheted off Ethan Chadwick’s pads, off a defensive skate to the back of the net for the game-winning goal.
