r Canada's Fix for Six has officially kicked in. Canada, chasing a sixth straight gold medal, defeated Latvia 16-0 in the opening game for both teams at the world junior hockey championship in Saskatoon.
r
r Patrice Cormier, Brandon McMillan, Brandon Kozun, Luke Adam and Gabriel Bourque scored in the third period to make it 15-0. For Bourque, the goal was his Canadian record-tying seventh point of the game.

r Latvia pulled starting goaltender Raimonds Ermics at 9:09, and replacement Janis Kalnins quickly coughed up a goal to Adam that made it 4-0 Canada. Cormier made it 5-0 with his first of the game before the first period was done.
r
r It got worse for Latvia in the second period as Jordan Eberle scored twice to lead a six goal assault. Travis Hamonic, Kadri, Kozun and Adam Henrique added singles to make it 11-0 through 40 minutes.
r
r Jake Allen started in goal for Canada, which has not lost a tournament opener for 12 years. Allen faced just eight shots through the first two periods.
