WHL PRE-SEASON BEGINS TONIGHT
WARRIORS AND BRONCOS KICK OFF 2012 PRE-SEASON – The 2012 WHL Exhibition schedule begins on Tuesday, August 28th, as the Swift Current Broncos visit the Moose Jaw Warriors for the opening game of the WHL pre-season.
The Warriors are coming off a successful 2011-12 campaign where they posted a 45-19-6-2 record to capture their third East Division title in franchise history. The Warriors also advanced all the way to the WHL Eastern Conference championship series where they fell to the eventual WHL Champion Edmonton Oil Kings.
The Broncos finished in 10th place in the Eastern Conference during the 2011-12 regular season on the back of a 27-37-2-6 record, and did not make the 2012 WHL playoffs.
The 2012 WHL exhibition schedule features four pre-season tournaments. The Everett Silvertips host their annual pre-season tournament, beginning August
31st, that will include U.S. Division rivals Seattle Thunderbirds, Spokane Chiefs, Portland Winterhawks and Tri-City Americans. The Edmonton Oil Kings will host a pre-season tournament which begins on August 31st that will include the Medicine Hat Tigers, Prince George Cougars, Swift Current Broncos, Calgary Hitmen and Red Deer Rebels. The following weekend, the Tri-City Americans will host their annual pre-season tournament that will include Division foes Spokane, Everett, Seattle and Portland along with the Kootenay Ice. The fourth tournament will be held in the Crowsnest Pass on the final weekend of pre-season action and will feature Central Division rivals the Kootenay Ice, Lethbridge Hurricanes and Calgary Hitmen.
The 2012-13 WHL Regular Season begins on Thursday, September 20th, with the defending WHL Champion Edmonton Oil Kings hosting the Kootenay Ice.
