Rockets Win WHL Western Conference
The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Portland Winterhawks 8-4 on Sunday afternoon in Portland, winning the WHL Western Conference Final in six games.
The Rockets won three straight games in the series, erasing a 2-1 series deficit and advancing to the WHL Western Conference Final where they will take on the Brandon Wheat Kings.
Madison Bowey and Dillon Dube each scored twice for the Rockets on Sunday as the Rockets came back from down 3-0 in the first period and raced back for the win.
“It’s been four years and this has been the goal since I came here,” said Rockets captain Madison Bowey. “To get it done here in Portland after they beat us in our own barn last year…I’m just so proud of the guys. It’s a tremendous feeling.”
Tyson Baillie, Cole Linaker, Justin Kirkland and Chance Braid also scored Kelowna in the game as the Rockets scored three times in the second period and four times in the third to run away with the win.
The win advances the Rockets on to the WHL Championship series against Brandon, beginning this Friday and Saturday night in Brandon.
Kelowna will host games three, four and five May 11, 13 and 15 at Prospera Place.
