Rockets Continuing Dominance at Home
As the Rockets return home to host the Regina Pats on Saturday, it is worth exploring their WHL dominance inside Prospera Place during the last three seasons.
This year, Kelowna boasts the league’s best winning percentage (.864) at home with a record of 9-1-1-0. A statistic in which the Rockets have led the league in two straight years.
In fact, in the last 83 regular season games played at Prospera Place, The Rockets have only lost 10 of those in regulation and 15 overall. In that stretch, they have outscored their opposition 383 to 175.
Assistant Coach Kris Mallette attributes his team’s home ice success to a combination of things.
“You have to take advantage of not only your fans, but your ability to have last change to get the matchups that you want. You don’t have that luxury on the road,” Mallette says. “On top of that we have received some great goaltending and defence, and I think that’s also why we’ve been so successful.”
The Rockets will play their next four games at home starting with the Pats on Saturday, followed by a mid-week matchup against Saskatoon Wednesday night. They will then host Prince George and Prince Albert on back to back nights, on Dec 5th and Dec 6th.
