March 8, 2013 – Kelowna, BC
The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Kamloops Blazers 3-2 in Kamloops on Friday night, extending its lead to five points over the Blazers in the race for first place in the WHL BC Division with just over a week to go in the regular season.
After falling behind 2-0, the Rockets scored three straight goals, including the winner from rookie Cole Linaker midway through the third period, to earn the hard fought win.
Jordon Cooke earned the win in net, stopping 35 of 37 Kamloops shots in a first-star performance for the Rockets.
“We got off to a rough start but we played our game, found a way to get back into it and win it in the third period,” said Cooke on Shaw TV’s post game show. “It was huge right now for us. It’s two good teams chasing after the division title. Whenever we can get two points against Kamloops, it’s good.”
Myles Bell and Tyson Baillie also scored for the Rockets who now have four games remaining in the season including Saturday night in Kelowna in the second half of the home and home series with Kamloops.
The win moved the Rockets five points ahead of Kamloops in the race for the BC Division title with the Rockets holding a game in hand as well.
“I’m so proud of the guys,” said Rockets assistant coach Dan Lambert on the AM1150 post game show. “A lot of good things happened to a lot of our players tonight. You look at Cole Linaker scoring the winning goal. He and Rourke Chartier are two young guys who had huge games for us.”
