Rockets Alumni Update: Myles Bell
Former Rocket Myles Bell has seen the start of another chapter in his hockey career, but his production on the ice has stayed the same.
As a member of the Evansville Ice Dogs of the ECHL, Bell has scored seven times in his first seven games of professional hockey.
The big right winger who tallied 80 goals in his last two years as a Rocket, was not counted on to provide big offensive numbers early on in his WHL career. After being traded to the Rockets as a defenceman, the Kelowna coaching staff determined that Bell’s skill-set warranted a change in position.
“The coach and I had a little talk and he asked me if I wanted to give forward a try since I was an offensive D-man,” Bell said in an interview with the NJ Advance Media, “things started to work out and me and my line mates stayed hot all season.”
Two years after the move, Bell found himself as a 6th round pick to the New Jersey Devils in the 2013 NHL entry draft.
While playing in the NHL might still be a few years away for the 21 year old Calgary native, with the way Bell is performing early on in his ECHL career, a jump to the big show might happen sooner than later.
Currently 548 players have played in the NHL after stints in the east coast league, including the likes of:
Alex Burrows – Vancouver Canucks
Johnathon Quick – Los Angeles Kings
Daniel Carcillo – Philadelphia Flyers
Dan Girardi – New York Rangers
Jroslav Halak – New York Islanders
Mark Letestu – Columbus Blue Jackets
Jared Staal – Carolina Hurricanes
So far this season Bell’s goal total ranks fourth in the ECHL and second among rookies.
