OH CANADA! Benn’s Beauty Tip Leads Canada to Win over USA
Feb. 21, 2014
It has to be the biggest goal Jamie Benn has ever scored.
Benn’s nifty tip of a Jay Bouwmeester pass was the only goal of the game as Team Canada defeated Team USA 1-0 to move onto the gold medal game on Sunday vs. Sweden at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
On a dominating line with Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf, Benn shone during the game and the entire tournament.
But it’s nothing that fans of the Kelowna Rockets are surprised at.
Benn showed off his flair for the offensive in two high scoring seasons with the Kelowna Rockets.
In 2007-08, the Victoria native scored 33 times and added 32 assists for 65 points in 51 games.
Then he followed that with 46 goals and 36 helpers for 82 points in only 56 games in 08-09, helping the Rockets to a second place finish in the ’09 Memorial Cup when he had 13 goals and 20 assists in 19 playoff games.
A 5th round draft pick of Dallas in ’07, Benn has played over 300 NHL games and is now the captain of the Stars.
And now in Sochi, the likable former Rocket is ascending to the top of the hockey world.
